From the Market:

We introduce the Nice Vice Creamy, a vegan ice cream.  Delicious!  And there will be Sizzlin’ Smokey Dogs with The Lemonade Stand right beside them to quench your thirst with the flavour of the day: Citrus (lemon, lime, orange).  Or sample some of the delicious wines that are grown and made right around us, on Vancouver Island and in the Okanagan;  The Fort Langley Wine Co is our newest vendor with a very nice blueberry wine; Township 7 has grape varieties that have won awards; Maan Estate Winery is selling strawberries and wine; Damali Lavender and Wine has a most interesting rhubarb wine; and you must try the mead from Campbells Gold Honey and Meadery (and the honey, too!)

There are so many vegetables arriving each week, many of them much earlier than usual.  We are pleased to welcome Croft Produce from Mission, our newest farmer.  Stock up, make pickles, relishes, jams, jellies (and keep in touch as we plan to have a jam making workshop on July 25.  Put some strawberries and raspberries in the freezer in readiness for this class).  We are proud to have so many farmers this year.

A hint about shopping at markets – take a stroll around the whole market before settling down to shop.  Know  your seasons.  Go early, the best goods go first.  Bring Big Bags and small change, the farmers will thank you if they don’t have to change a $20.  Plan for spontaneity, especially with vegetables arriving earlier that usual. Buy in bullk if you can – freeze, can, dry to presrve flavours.   If you find a vegetable that’s new to you, ask the farmer.  Our Gourmet Grannies under the Try It, You’ll Like It tent have lots of ideas and recipes as well.
