Grow and Gather welcomes the Haney Farmers Market undercover

While it did not rain here in Maple Ridge today (surprise!) it was lovely to experience the Haney Farmers Market undercover at Grow and Gather Nursery (formerly Trice Farms).  While many established markets around the world enjoy permanent infrastructure like roofs, water, electricity and site stability, the Haney Farmers Market can be thought of as still evolving towards that state.  We all enjoy being outside on a lovely summer’s day at the Market but there is a lot to be said for moving forward, thinking about year-around markets like Atwater and Jean Talon in Montreal and, closer to home, the Bellingham Farmers Market.  Even the Vancouver Farmers Market at Trout Lake Market is  looking at new structures for their market after having set up in various parking lots around the park for the last couple of decades – see Randy Shore’s “Tented market seeks permanent home”.  Permanent and stable market buildings could support not only local agriculture and producers but also pride of place.  Maple Ridge could be leading the way…

  1. Jessie, thank you for a wonderful blog! I want to send it everywhere – especially our politicians, MLA/MP as well! Just slowly, drip by drip, wearing away at them….
