One Giant Himalayan Lily (Cardiocrinum giganteum)

We have three Cardiocrinum gigantueums blooming this year and one really is a giant.  It seeded itself on the edge of the garden path several years ago and has been storing up its energy to bloom ever since.  It measures 10’2″ today (I had to stand on our 5′ step ladder to measure it) and it is surrounded by fragrance.  It would be wonderful to grow a forest of these creatures but they keep to their own schedule so we usually have two or three every year.  After growing for seven years or so they bloom, set seed and die leaving offsets and many seeds to take their place.
