Haney Farmers Market, 9 June 2012

It was another fine day at the Haney Farmers Market in central Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada.  Well, it didn’t snow or rain and there were lots of people.  We have had more glorious days for temperature and sunshine but who needs that sunblock all the time?  Cool and damp are the hallmarks of early summer in the temperate rainforest.  We spent most of the day around the market in support of the KICS Lemonade stand who did surprisingly good business considering the weather.  They were really impressed with how nice the people are who come to the market.

There were lots of fun things going on besides: a beaded dragonfly craft at the Kids’ Table and a special tea for seniors on the Bandstand.  Just down the path the folk from Country Fest brought along real chicks, chickens, turkeys and sheep for us all to meet.  Lamb from Brookfield Farm was just across the way and there were lunches to be had from the samosa vendors and the foodie artists at Big Feast.  We managed to find time to pick up eggs from Ridge Free Range Eggs, salsa relish (what we think of as a kickstarter for guacamole) from Aji.  The Gourmet Grannies were hard at work with their seasonal samples: radishes.  Onward towards summer (please, the tomato plants in the garden are looking stalwart but could use some heat)!
