Busy Weekend for Maple Ridge, 12&13 May 2012

As the weather warms up and the sun finally shines upon us there will be a lot to this weekend in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.  First and foremost is the opening of the Haney Farmers Market at 9 a.m. in Maple Ridge’s Memorial Peace Park.  New and old vendors will be there with vegetables, plants, baked goods, arts, crafts and much more.  The Market has a wonderful new sound system that enhances both the entertainers’ performances and the market experience.  It is a wonderful place to meet up with friends and family to see what is in season and to enjoy a cup of coffee, treats or a full meal.

You can also take in the self-guided Art Studio Tour running both Saturday and Sunday in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.  The studios are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Art works include ceramics, wood carving and wood working, paintings and mixed media.  Photos and additional information is available at

Also on this Saturday and Sunday is Bruce’s Country Market’s Spring Festival.  From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. you are invited to enjoy “a wild salmon barbecue, huge seafood sales, a big red tag sale, a hanging basket and gardening spectacular, free cake and coffee, local entertainment, free draws” etc.

On Sunday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. the Vistas Run/Walk 2012 takes off from Websters Corner Elementary School (Dewdney Trunk Road at 256th Street) in support of the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society.  The 5K is a Walk/Run, the 10K is a Run and, new for this year, there is a 4K Family Fun Walk (something about Mother’s Day?) through Kanaka Creek Regional Park.  This is the fifteenth annual Vistas/Run walk and it should be a lovely day for it.

All this an Mother’s Day on Sunday as well… it looks like the fun won’t slow down all weekend so be sure to get out and enjoy it all.
