Ridge-Meadows Outdoor Club – Hot Chocolate Hike

The Ridge-Meadows Outdoor Club organized its ever-popular annual Hot Chocolate Hike today.  Over 30 outdoor enthusiasts hiked, cycled and kayaked from Maple Ridge to Derby Reach in Langley for a delicious spread and carols by the river. A foggy morning cleared to wintry sunshine in the afternoon.

The Outdoor Club is a well established local volunteer organization that actively pursues any kind of self propelled activity in the Lower Mainland, with regular organized hikes on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays and longer trips and camps to places such as Manning Park, the Callaghan Valley and beyond. It’s a wonderful resource for anyone interested in exploring trails and mountains, meeting people, and getting some exercise, with some highly experienced members happy to lead trips into the local mountains and beyond. Activities run year round, from hiking, biking, cross country skiing, snow-shoeing and kayaking. The Club has also played an increasingly active role in maintaining trails in the Golden Ears area.

The Club was formed in 1994, when a few hikers put an announcement in the local paper, calling a meeting of interested folk. Over 150 people showed up, and the club has never looked back! Newbies are welcome to drop in on one of the regular hikes (see the schedule on the website) and give the club a try. Members range in age in age from youth to seniors, with different skill and fitness levels accommodated.
